JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- The final meeting of the school year was held Tuesday for the Jackson Public School Board.

With just days remaining in the 2011-2012 session department heads shared their yearend evaluations with trustees.

Five J.P.S. students were recognized during the last school board meeting for their first place finish and $2,000.00 scholarships in the Lockheed Martin IT Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Program.

It was one of the highlights of the meeting in which board members heard end of year summaries from various departments.

Tips lead to 100-pound pot bust

JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- An investigation spanning nearly eight months led to a major drug bust Tuesday afternoon at a home in north Jackson.

Investigators say tips from people who live in the neighborhood led them to a house on Vine Street, where they arrested three men and confiscated over 100 pounds of marijuana.

Commander Jessie Robinson, Jr., says the bust should make a significant dent in the Jackson drug trade.

“Our idea,” Watkins says, “is to restore, redevelop, and relaunch it as a movie theater with a dine-in concept.”

Micajah Sturdivant says an event next Thursday night at 5pm at Brent’s aims to bridge the gap for people who may not feel plugged in.

J.P.S. ROTC students graduate with scholarships

JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- Victoria Griffin, Jeremy Coleman, Miriah Martin, and Alex Coleman are four JROTC cadets at Jim Hill High School in Jackson. They may not be what you would consider your typical seniors.

The green military uniforms and awards set them apart.

"I think the program has actually taught me the value of knowing exactly what my education is worth and not just being a regular student," says Griffin.
