Fondren’s Pix/Capri Theater to re-open as multi-screen cinema

Fondren’s Pix/Capri Theater will re-open as a multi-screen cinema as early as summer 2013.

Principal partner Jason Watkins, along with Marcy and Aaron Vick, David Pharr and Dorsey Carson have signed the deal with big plans for the historic space.

“Our idea,” Watkins says, “is to restore, redevelop, and relaunch it as a movie theater with a dine-in concept.”

'Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites' coming soon to MCM

The Mississippi Children's Museum will soon welcome its first traveling exhibit -- "Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites".

The exhibit features famous characters and iconic scene taken right out of the pages of seven celebrated children's books: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "The Snowy Day", "Abuela", "Tuesday", and "Where’s Spot?".

Storyland's grand opening is Saturday, May 19. It will run through Aug. 26.

Fischer Galleries is a colorful place and one you’ll want to stop in to on your next Fondren visit. If you peek inside, you’ll see works by three artists, celebrating the hues and tones of variety. “The show is all about color, says Marcy Nessel, the gallery’s owner. “But it’s showcased in three different mediums.” The coming together of the three was one of those things Nessel says ‘just happened.’ “The stars were all in alignment apparently for this show!” The opening reception will held next Thursday night from 5-7pm.

Expansion, New Showroom For Glo

Trees and open spaces: they're what designer Anthony Ritter loves. The Fondren creative behind Glo and AR Designs has expanded his footprint with a new showroom not far from his current one. "I look out and can see trees and the green space by Babalu," Ritter says from the former Woodland Hills Dollhouse next to Fondren Cellars. His showroom square footage has gone from 1,200 to 2,500, seemingly overnight, though he says it's been a long time coming.
