City of Jackson Recycle Day Saturday

The City of Jackson is holding a recycling day Saturday to help residents dispose dangerous household waste safely.

The event is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Battlefield Park, which is at the corner of Highway 80 and Terry Road in Jackson.

Household hazerdous waste, electronics and used tires will be accepted at the site. Examples of these items include:

  • Antifreeze
  • Pesticides/insecticides
  • Oils/gas (liquid)
  • Lawn and garden chemicals
  • Paint
  • Batteries
  • Photographic chemicals
  • Propane Tanks
  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • VCRS
  • printers/keyborads

The National Forest Services will premier its documentary "Mississippi Green Fire" at the Millsaps Arts & Lecture Series program Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Ford Academic Complex.

Public recycling drop-off has moved from Rainbow Natural Grocery. The cooperative has announced a solution what they say was an eyesore and cost prohibitive service by directing recylcers to 841 Palmyra Street in Jackson.

Traffic signals going 'green'

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - If you're wondering what's going on with traffic signals at intersections across the City of Jackson, it's the beginning of a major overhaul.

Workers have begun installing energy efficient LED traffic lighting upgrades at 324 intersections across Jackson.

Mayor Harvey Johnson says the LED lighting is expected to reduce energy consumption and save money.

Plants that produce colorful berries can enhance the winter landscape. Mississippi gardeners are lucky because we have some real beauties to help shake up the winter landscape.

Pyracantha is a popular landscape plant that seems to drip with large numbers of orange to red berries hanging in heavy clusters.
