US Airways to offer new non-stop flight | News

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - US Airways will begin non-stop service from Jackson to Washington D.C. in early March.
The direct service will go from Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, announced Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Glenda Glover, chairman of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority.
Delta Airlines is currently the only carrier offering direct service from Jackson to the nation’s capital, but recently announced it would stop this route March 2.
US Airways petitioned the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin servicing the route on an interim basis March 4.
In 2004, the department of transportation gave Delta exclusive rights to fly the route. Now that Delta has decided to stop service, USDOT can redistribute the flight slots to a new carrier.
